mixtape downloads

Here are a few hot mixtapes that everyone should actually in my opinion give a listen to ...

So Far So Gucci- Take So far So Gone by Drake mix in random Gucci lines and you get this mixtape. This blended tape is pretty good. I could hear this in the clubs or baker parties. The Drake beats somewhat soften Gucci's hard rhymes. Feature track Go Head 'N Go In (Burr)

Byrds Eye View- To those who hate it Dipset is still around...ish. Well J.R.Writer keeps their hope alive. This mixtape after his near death shooting showcases his skills. He's still punchline heavy and jackin beats. The mixtape is good no lie, better than some other bird related rappers. (Writer)

And the #ifuczwitit award goes to

Road Kill- Joell Ortiz is back with a pretty good banger of a mixtape. Some of the songs of course were released by themselves but this has them all together. His skills are often looked at as one of the weaker members of Slaughter house but you need to listen to this if you want word play and skills. He tells stories and gives you thoughts (YEAAAOWHA)

So download these mixtapes and get some good music in ya ears. Oh by the way

I be back folks

Well I know I have been gone for a while. Family issues and personal things but I can tell you that I am back for sure...again lmao. First and foremost I must say there have been some good albums that need to be talked about. I am gonna review Gucci Mane's new cd, and two underground cds with Joell Ortiz and J.R Writer (dip dip set). But lately there have been some albums that have been lack luster. Its becoming a shame for hip hop fans and hip hop heads to listen now. Think about it...how many listen to the radio..its okay I'll wait? See once I got a hold of my digital music the radio became hd-dvd to me null and void.

Oh but on the topic of radio please check out SPdaCoolKid and Cool Kid Radio these joints are hot.

Name Jackin...

Okay it has come to my attention that if you did not know, my emcee name is Crispy, Oh Crispy, Crispy Shuttlesworth, Ike Crispy etc haha (damn I have a lot of nicknames) but there is an emcee named Crispy that is mad whackness. I was on a ill blog spot i usually go to and came upon him. Now I usually don't do this but I would challenge him to a battle for the name. I believe theres gotta be something to back up your ability to use the name. If you don't have the skills then you can't use the same...

Oh Crispy cough cough better crispy is out

Hip Hop Lesson

Hip Hop Lesson Biting:

I know this is was and is a long time coming but yes. This is something that everyone has done or dealt with. This is something that can gain a lot of ass whoppings in the hip hop community. Lets first get the definition.

Biting: to plagiarize, typically in reference to a hip-hop artist stealing another hip-hop artist's lyrics.

This is something that a lot of artists can't stand. Most of the older schooled hip hop vets know this first hand because a lot of their rhymes were and are still being taken quoted. While this is bad other rappers can take this and turn it into great songs. Ex Now isn't this great your flight leaves at eight her flight lands at night by Notorious B.I.G's Gimme one more chance which was bitten by Jay-Z Girls girls girls remix.

Now biting is something that a lot of artist take lightly. I personally think as long as you don't A) over do it B) give props to who ever first said it. Then it is okay when done in good taste.

Now im taking ideas for what the next Hip Hop Lesson

Hip Hop Lesson

The Punchline:

The punchline is something very simple that all hip hop artists need to be able to grasp and utilize as a part of their hip hop weaponry. What a punchline is in the basic point is the ending line of your "bar" its the last part that ends the bar. When you listen to anyone rhyme there are a lot of punchlines. Its the "zinger" that makes the crowd oohh and ahh when they hear it.

Some quality examples of punchlines can be by your favorite artists:
"Yo, I got slugs for snitches, no love for bitches,
Puttin' thugs in ditches when my trigger finger itches"
-Big L

"Immortal technique disintegrates Mic's when i spit
i cause more casualties than sunken slave ships"
-Immortal Technique

"If you go platinum, it's got nothing to do with luck,
It just means that a million people are stupid as f*ck"
-Immortal Technique

Some artists are also classified as a punchline artist. They specialize in dealing out damage in freestyle battles or in verse's on songs. Every line they end as a hard ending finisher. Its as if there was a fatality after every line the way they attack the artist/track/cd. You will usually hear a lot more punchlines when it comes to mixtapes or diss tracks for artists. Many of the punchlines are usually a good way to either pass the mic, start a verse or just to check the crowd to make sure they are still following. You have to be able to utilize the power of the punchline. For example in a battle if the punchline you thought would have went hard but yet as you said it, no one really got it then there is a problem. The punchline has to have the ability to touch the masses but yet get that ohh and ahh attack effect. But you cant really use your punchline untilyou have the ability to move the crowd...

Its Marching Band Time

I know this is a departure from what I usually write. But it is music. I love marching band (Maple Heights Mustangs) we killed the show. But I recently came from a part of marching band that I was unfamiliar with, drum corps/color guard and mostly competition band styles. I know for speaking for myself that I loved band we were a show band we made sure that the crowed enjoyed what we were playing and what we were doing. We danced played newer top 40 songs stand cheers were that of current genre songs. And it was good. On the somewhat opposite spectrum is show style. Now my first thought was is this really marching band. And it was just a style and way that I was not used to. They have the same aspects of that in show style but they compete on a more global level. With DCI (drum corps international) they have a lot more coordination and from my take they put a lot more practice into their pieces not saying that show band doesn't but some of these groups are on new levels. A lot of skills are showcased on the field. Between the spinning of the flags/rifles/sabers to the percision movements of the band itself it is pretty intricate.

From my perspective from the outside looking in and I love my show style and at first I stated that I'm not a fan of core style as it were. But as I continue to watch it more and more I can personally see why it is such a popular style. And why it is just as big if not bigger on a college level as well. I would recommend going to see a drum corps show it will put you onto a whole new level of band that I haven't experienced since high school.

Next time I'm taking it to my all time favorite: Black College Band aka HBCU bands

Artist Spotlight: Lloyd Banks

Lloyd Banks:

This is something that I am going to start doing an artist spotlight. My first one will probably throw some people off. Its Mister Blue Hef. Lloyd Banks. To me besides Young Buck(who meh to me is hit or miss sometimes) is solidly underrated as an MC. He has the ability to change his flow. He can hop on any beat. I think because of 50 that jacked up his marketablility. His freestyles are pretty on par with the best of them. I would put him on my rap roster no questions about that shit either. I think what could save him if he put more of his freestyles out there as real songs because these songs have a nice melody and great lyrical skills.

Strengths:
Lyrical stability, punch-line values, under the radar

Weaknesses:
Hard to market, 50 his damn self, lack of respect of G-unit

Heres a real good question for everyone...why does everyone love Gucci Mane? Is he so street hes good? or is it because of his adlibs which the yeah's he says are makin fun of Jeezy if you didn't know? i like him not gonna lie he got some catchy shit but if u look at the substance of his lyrics this dude mutters. I feel as if I hear mush mouth rapping. I wonder what his thought process would be? thats the great question to me. I mean there are a lot of mush mouth rappers. And they get all of the respect and play. I guess when I drop an album its mush mouth on deck. Case and point with the download of the day. But shouts to Big Boi and Santana...

PS. remember folks lyricism is a must

My thought is simple for this blog... The hell is up with Emcees random ass names and such. No one respects you with a whack name which is a known fact. But when you think to hard on it and try to be complex it doesn't work. For me my name came from the song oh crispy. I'm not gonna lie it was a joke. Till the day I got on that Freestyle battle stage and my homie from another Star just started sayin Ohhhh Crispy and it stuck. Now thats what im known by people on the street say the name crispy and know I have some lyrical talent. Now thats me some of these other athens bums yeah i said it need to work on that shit in my eyes and not just athens majors and undergrounds too.

A lot of people talk about the "golden age," of hip hop and I know that a lot of people either will love or hate this post. But real talk, the golden age is due for a second come around lets call it the "silver age" it will only atempt to be as good. The thing is to me the golden age died about ohh lets say 97. Think about it, it was constant good shit coming from a lot of artists back then. Making classic songs that you would bump 2 and 3 months after it got played out. A lot of good things were coming out a lot of strength was still in the hip hop community. And it wasn't about Rap, it was a lot more hip hop.

This silver age is starting to come im starting to see it a lot more clearer, that in the early 2000's the silver age of hip hop slowly started. I do think that there is a 2-3 year buffer on that idea yeah, cuz for a lil bit hip hop was weak as fuck and we all know it. So as a lot of better hip hop is coming out it is slowly getting better. Theres still a lot of fucker goin on which sucks but yet this shit has to happen for the good shit to come out.

Oh ohio Hip Hop:

O-H-I-O you know I've been doing some thinking and I usually come up with something thats a good topic to say the least. What happened to hayday Ohio hip hop. I mean yeah we had our hay day back in like the 90's with Bone thugs and at those other random ass Bone spin off groups. But where is that good classic ohio hip hop heads at. Now don't get me wrong, Kid Cudi, Chip tha Ripper, Corey Bapes(yeah i kno), etc. But for those like Crispy how u gonna over look Talib, HiTek, Blueprint? I didn't by anymeans its just when is Ohio gonna go back to being known as that music capital it used to be? We had people like damn that Bone song is hard I need more of that. Kudi is only starting but his buzz is getting bigger and bigger. I personally hope he just doesn't Charles Hamleton and start sayin/doing stupid things. (but i'll touch on that later) But alas hip hop is alive here and hopefully this lil buzz that is starting to generate will get Ohio hip hop back in contension with the other coasts....4th coast stand up haha.

Now this is something new. Well not really, I've been here before years and what not but now as an freestyleemcee (yes one word) I have to share my views o f what hip hop does to life and how it inspires more then people know. But as some do why stop here? You gotta come here for the fact of me telling the truth, giving some of the best new jams out there and a fresh spin on life. That of a freestyleemcee. Because we tell it as we see it no time to really grasp it we just speak our minds.
